Concrete Floors
It may not be something you notice when you’re out and about, but concrete floors are everywhere. Many commercial buildings have them, and now many residences do as well. You can’t beat concrete for lasting power and strength.
The many choices of colors and designs cover just about every kind of decor in homes and businesses of all types. Public areas like restaurants and other retail stores depend on concrete for a trusty foundation. Thousands of customers walk on those floors every week, and they must hold up successfully.
Outdoor patios of homes and restaurants are enhanced by the right color and design to complement the exterior of the structure. Most of the time, floors are not the focus of the design, but a bad choice of flooring really stands out. Plain, muted colors on floors often support the other design hues for easy upkeep in public settings.
Now, beautiful concrete floors can be cleaned easily, too, and you don’t have to settle for a drab floor when you want some pizazz. An amazingly long list of colors are available, and the designs seem to go on forever. Symbols and all-over designs can be the basis for flooring at home or at the office.
Imagine being able to make a landscape designer jump for joy when told he or she can pick out the perfect floor design for a patio or pool surround. It must be like Christmas for interior designers as well. There is a floor stain color that blends with or shows up every color of wall paint, wallpaper or exterior material.
Concrete floors can be made to look like wood, stone or tile. Stained concrete floors can be made to look like water. That’s tough to do with any other kind of flooring. Pick a design theme and run with it. Concrete floors will do their design job in most any area.
Stained and polished concrete floors can be cleaned with any of these four soaps:
• Mild dish soap
• Neutral stone cleaner
• Castile soap
• pH neutral floor cleaners/detergents
Floors need to be rinsed with warm water after being mopped with soapy water, and there should not be any standing water left in puddles. Set up a large fan to blow across the floor for faster drying.
The wear and tear issue is a no-brainer with concrete floors. Many rec rooms, game rooms and playrooms have concrete floors to stand up to kids, pets, jumping and clomping. Sometimes, things fly through the air, but the concrete floor will probably not sustain damage when they land.
